How to Tell What your Supplement REALLY Contains

Posted by Laura O'Rourke on

If you have ever tried to compared supplement brands and the ingredients they contain, you probably only scratched the surface.

Just as supplements are not all created equal, neither are their ingredients.

That is why it is important to understand how much of an ingredient is contained in your supplement, and what form it comes in.

In this blog post, we take a look at some of the ingredients in Revive Active’s unique blend, and what form they take, compared to other supplement brands on the market.

Nutrients come in a range of forms

Nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals and proteins, come in a variety of different forms.

For example, most of us would have heard of vitamin B1. But did you know it comes in different forms, and why one supplement brand might use a different form to another?

Revive Active contains 300% of the NRV for vitamin B1, while another brand contains 909%.

On the surface, it might appear the brand with more B1 is better, yet Revive Active uses the Thiamine HCL form of B1, rather than Thiamine Mononitrate used by competitors, because it is much more bioavailable (and consequently more expensive) than Mononitrate.

When it comes to B12, Revive Active contains 100% of the NRV for the vitamin, while another brand contains 800%.

Again, Revive Active uses a superior grade and more expensive form of B12 called Methylcobalamin (the methylised form of the nutrient) than its competitors who typically use Cyanocobalamin which the body has to convert to Methylcobalamin.

Similarly, the base form of Folic Acid called Pteroylmonoglutamic Acid also has to be converted by the body before it can be used. While another brand contains 200% of this base form of Folic Acid, Revive Active contains 150% of the NRV of the MTHF form of Folic Acid (Calcium L-Methylfolate), which has a much higher bioavailability.

It is also worth noting many other brands contain Magnesium Oxide which is not easily absorbed by the body and should never be taken by someone with a magnesium deficiency.

Instead Revive Active uses the chelated form of Magnesium (Magnesium Bisglycinate) which is much more easily absorbed by the body.

Revive Active uses the highest quality ingredients

The Revive Active team is committed to using the highest grade of ingredients where they are of benefit to our customers.

In a number of cases, that means we use a different form of nutrient to other supplement brands on the market. For example, for:

  • Vitamin B1 we use Thiamin HCL instead of Thiamin Mononitrate
  • Vitamin B2 we use Riboflavin 5-Phosphate instead of the base Riboflavin
  • Vitamin K we use Vitamin K2 instead of Vitamin K1
  • Vitamin B9 we use MTHF instead of Folic Acid
  • Vitamin B12 we use Methycobalamin instead of Cyanocobalamin, and
  • Vitamin D we use the Vegan Lichen form instead of the Lanolin form (from Sheep’s wool).
