Posted by Marketing Admin on

Hello! My name is Lizzie Lee and I’m a 44-year-old full time working mother of 3 and a former Irish international marathon runner. I’ve taken part in marathons all over the world and know only too well how tricky it can be to balance everything at home, work and in training. I take Revive Active daily and have done since my build up to the marathon in Rio in 2016. I find these supplements incredible for supporting my energy and immune system, as well as for my children who take Junior Revive.

I’m going to give you my top 5 tips to manage your time with balancing motherhood and fitness.

  1. Don’t waste time on guilt. Remember that being fit and healthy can ONLY be a positive thing for your child/children. When you are fit and healthy you have more energy, you’ll be happier and as a result - you’ll end up being a better mom without even trying. Also when your kids see you exercising and making time for yourself, they will want to exercise too. Monkey see, monkey do.
  1. Pelvic health physio. If you have a small baby and are wondering about returning safely to running, I’d strongly recommend going to a pelvic health physio to get the all They will recommend tailored exercises to ensure your healthy return to running. It’s like a “mommy NCT”, because you grew a human being and that’s a big deal.
  1. If you’re breastfeeding, get a very comfortable sports bra and drink plenty of water. Feed that baby right before you head to make sure you feel comfortable for the duration of the run. I breastfed all three babies and ran and they happily fed again the minute I got back in the door.
  1. Meet another mom friend. The easiest way to train is to buddy up with someone who lives near you. On the days you feel like skipping training they’ll be the one who gets you out on that run. Accountability is what it’s all about. If she’s a mom, she’ll fully understand the days when you message to say you have exactly 51 minutes to get the job done.
  1. Pick a goal race. 10km is the ideal example of a feasible and tangible goal that you can put in your diary as you return to running. The 10km GaelForce races can be the perfect introduction to the freedom of trail running for first timers. Getting out onto the trails and carving out some time for ourselves will always put a smile on your face. Imagine your kids welcoming you back to the finish line! You can plan your next one in Howth on the 12th of October or in Wicklow on the 9th of November.

Disclaimer: These tips are based on an athlete’s personal experience. If you wish to follow them, the first step you should take is consulting your medical professional before doing so - as everyone’s health will be different post-partum. Wishing you the best with your motherhood, nutrition, and fitness journey!
