We are only beginning to understand the unique role nutrition plays in our mental wellbeing and cognitive performance. Research into this area is fascinating. We know the brain is made up of abundant lipid (fat) content, has high energy requirements, low repair capacity and a low level of antioxidant capacity and that it is vulnerable to oxidative stress (cell damage), (Lee et al., 2020). Certain nutrients have a direct effect on our cognitive function. Top of this list are antioxidants, omega 3 and choline.
The Role of Antioxidants on Brain Health:
Antioxidants work in two ways. First, they help to mop up free radicals that damage cells and secondly, they help with repairing any damage already done. Vitamin C found in oranges, kiwis, strawberries, broccoli, whilst Vitamin E is another powerful antioxidant is abundant in asparagus, olives, spinach, wheatgerm and nuts. Other examples of supportive antioxidants include Lycopene (tomatoes), Lutein (avocados), beta carotene (carrots) and flavanoids (cocoa, green tea) and anthocyanins (berries).
Omega 3 and Memory & Learning:
Omega 3 poly unsaturated fatty acids are normal constituents of cell membranes and are essential for normal brain functions. As Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) it is a great investment in your overall health to include regular intake of oily fish, flaxseeds, krill, chia seeds and walnuts.
Choline and Neurotransmitter Function
Choline is an essential nutrient meaning it is required for normal bodily function and human health. It is neither a vitamin nor a mineral but a water-soluble compound. The liver can make small amounts, but we must obtain the majority through diet. Choline is found in egg yolks, chicken liver, fresh cod, salmon, broccoli, veal, and lettuce. Choline is required to make acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter that is involved in memory.
Omega 3 DHA, Uridine & Choline are hero ingredients in Revive Active’s Mastermind Super Supplement.
To complement the brain enhancing benefits of DHA, Mastermind’s 10 other scientifically formulated ingredients including Zinc, Folate and Pantothenic Acid work in synergy to support brain, cognitive and psychological function and mental performance.
Mastermind comes in a powdered format that dissolves in a glass of water for quick and easy absorption throughout the body, compared to tablet or capsule that has to be broken down by the body first.
