Family Wellness Tips and Ideas

Posted by Marketing Admin on

With the return to school, it can sometimes be hard to get the whole family back into a routine. Juggling busier schedules, maintaining early bedtimes, eating healthier, making school lunches, taking vitamin supplements to support our immune systems, and keeping family wellness and wellbeing to the forefront so the school year gets off to a good start…it can all seem a little overwhelming for parents, not to mention kids!

Read on to see how you can make family wellness a priority, then download My Kids Time free planner to get started.

1. Do Some Simple Daily Stretching

Start the day with a few simple stretches. If mornings are a frantic time and the though of adding in time for stretching is a step too far, try making time in the evening and opting for gentler yoga moves to calm down before bedtime.

2. Have a Digital Detox Day

It is said that social media is more addictive than smoking or alcohol – which is shocking! Taking a step back and getting away from those devices for a day as a family is a great routine to set, once a week or a fortnight, whatever works best for you.

Showing your kids that they can get by without checking their phones/devices is important, and leading by example is a great way to teach them the importance of being active, maintaining friendships in the ‘real’ world by talking, spending time together, etc.

3. Watch Something Funny Together

Laughter really is the best medicine!

We have movie night in our house once a week and more often than not it’s a family-friendly comedy. There is nothing better than sitting with your kids, devices off, and dedicated to spending the time watching something funny – laughing together is a great feeling.

4. Prioritise Nutrition

All of us need a wide range of nutrients to help us feel our best, especially for children and teenagers as they get back to the classroom. Any extra support that can be given, in addition to a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, is very welcome.

Irish supplement company Revive Active has children’s nutritional needs covered with their award-winning products – Junior Revive (for ages 4-12) and Teen Revive (for ages 13 – 18). Both super supplements are uniquely formulated to support the heart, brain, bones, and the immune system.

Food Supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.

5. List 10 Things You Are Thankful For

Gratitude journals have been with us all for a while now. If keeping an individual journal on a regular basis isn’t for you, why not make your gratitude list a family conversation over dinner? Everyone can take turns listing things they are thankful for, and you would be surprised how this can improve the mood and lead to great conversation.

6. Cook a Meal Together from Scratch

Cooking together can really instil good habits in younger people, from trying new foods to making healthier choices. It can also be a great opportunity to learn new skills together and show that spending time creating something together is really worthwhile. Be prepared, this can get messy – but just embrace it, have fun and you can create something delicious too!

7. Go to Bed One Hour Earlier
